US decision on Jerusalem ‘unfair’ says Archbishop of Colombo

Apropos Church frowns on US decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel capital in yesterday’s city edition of The Island, Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, Archbishop of Colombo has sent us the following statement: “I have been disturbed about the newspaper item appearing on page 3 where it is said that I condemned the US for recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. This is not correct as I never condemned anyone. What I said was that ‘Jerusalem belongs to several communities and not just one community and so the decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel is unfair.’”

“The published insinuation of a condemnation is a journalistic addition which I do not agree to.”
