The UNP’s May Day celebrations will be held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium tomorrow (6) from 9 am.
This year the party has decided not to have a May Day procession.
Arrangements have been made to hold an all-night pirith chanting ceremony at the party headquarters, Sirikotha, tomorrow night and an alms giving for 100 bhikkhus on Monday morning, party sources said.
Other parties will hold their May Day celebrations on Monday 7. There is no enthusiasm in holding a procession and a rally on May 7 one week after the May Day. We selected the venue considering the convenience of our members. The stadium is already booked for May 7, therefore we decided to hold our rally there on Sunday without a procession,” a senior party spokesman said.
