The Supreme Court yesterday fixed for support on May 11, the fundamental rights violation petition filed by Udayanga Weeratunga, former Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Ukraine, requesting the Supreme Court to revoke the warrant issued by the Magistrate to arrest him.
He is at present under arrest in Dubai.
Weeratunga, suspected of having laundered state funds in a deal to purchase MiG aircraft to the Sri Lanka Air Force.
President’s Counsel Manohara de Silva appeared for Weeratunga, who had complained of an undue violation of his personal liberty by the Interpol, acting on the direction of the CID of Sri Lanka, consequent to a warrant issued by the Magistrate.
The Supreme Court bench comprised Justice Vijith K. Malalgoda and Justice Murdhu N. B. Fernando.
