Two police officers assaulted in Jaffna

An unidentified gang has attacked two police officers attached to the Kopai Police station in Jaffna, local media reported.

Nine assailants wielding swords and clubs have come on four motorcycles while the police officers were inquiring a complaint. The police officers were hacked with the weapons and assaulted with clubs, according to reports.

The assailants have fled the scene after the attack, the Police said.

Injured officers have been admitted to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital. One of the officers is in critical condition and has undergone surgery at the Jaffna General Hospital.

The Jaffna Police are conducting further investigations.
