Two police Special Task Force personnel were yesterday arrested by the CID at the Jaffna Police station over the killing of a 24-year-old man on the afternoon of October 22 at Maniyam Thottam in Ariyalai.
Victim Don Bosco, a fisherman had been proceeding on a motorcycle with another man on the day of the incident when two armed men who followed them in another motorcycle fired at them and fled. The fatally shot Bosco died after admission to Jaffna hospital on the same day at about 9.30 pm.
Soon after the killing people in Jaffna protested stating that it was carried out by the police and a tense situation prevailed.
IGP Pujith Jayasundera handed over the investigation to the Criminal Investigation Department of the police. CID Assistant Superintendent of Police Mohan Siriwardena led a team of sleuths to Jaffna to investigate the killing.
They were helped by the footage of a CCTV nearby and they were able to identify and take into custody the trishaw and the motorcycle used by the killers along with a 9mm pistol.
