The Supreme Court postponed the hearing of the appeal submitted by the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) requesting to annul the order issued by the Appeals Court in last January ordering the students of the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) medical faculty to be registered.
The appeal was taken up for hearing before a three-member panel of judges Eva Wanasundera, Priyantha Jayawardena and Nalin Perera.
The SLMC appeal challenges the January 31 ruling of the Court of Appeal to register a student of South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine Limited (SAITM) in Malabe provisionally as a medical practitioner in terms of section 29(2) of the Medical Ordinance. The SLMC seeks to null the judgment dated January 31, 2017 by Court of Appeal.
State Additional Solicitor General Sanjaya Rajaratnam representing the Attorney General informed the court that the recommendations of the presidential committee which solved the SAITM problem are being implemented.
