The Supreme Court today indefinitely postponed the order on granting leave to proceed the fundamental rights petition relating to Provincial Council Election (Amendment) Act filed by the former chief Justice Sarath N. Silva.
The fundamental rights petition was called Thursday before a three-member Panel of Judges comprising Chief Justice, Priyasath Dep, Justices Buwaneka Aluvihare and Nalin Perera.
Raising preliminary objections Additional Solicitor General Sanjaya Rajaratnam, who appeared for the Attorney General, alleged that Sarath N. Silva has made an attempt to cover up the situation. He pleaded the judiciary to reject the petition without taking up for hearing as the Provincial Council Elections (Amendment) Act had been duly passed in parliament.
Six parties including President’s Council MP M.A Sumanthiran have requested the apex court to reject the former chief justice’s petition.
