SAITM will not be abolished or nationalised – Rajitha

Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne said yesterday that if the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) did not agree to the reasonable and practical solution that had been put forward to resolve the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) issue its hidden agenda would be proved beyond doubt.

He told the weekly Cabinet Press Briefing at the Information Department that no one should try to meddle with children’s education for political purposes.

“Let the GMOA produce a workable solution if its not agreeable to what’s on the table. There should be no hidden agenda’s,” Senaratne said, adding that SAITM would not be abolished or nationalised.

The Minister said that SAITM would function as a non profit organisation under a state institution, which meant that any surplus revenue would be used to develop SAITM without being distributed among its current shareholders.
