Rice imports to stabilise prices

The government has decided to permit the private sector to import rice with a view to stabilising prices and give the consumer relief.

This follows the Cabinet of Ministers discussing the rapid increase in the price of rice on Tuesday.

The government said that the quantum of rice to be imported would be decided by the Cabinet Sub Committee on Cost of Living, while ensuring that domestic farmers would not be affected. ( ZJ)
