Retired Army Chief of Staff arrested

Retired Army Chief of Staff Major General K. A. D Amal Karunasekara has been arrested in connection with his alleged involvement in the abduction and assault on Keith Noyah, the Deputy Editor of The Nation on May 22, 2008.


At the time of his arrest, Karunasekara, attached to the newly established National Defence College, was receiving treatment at the Military Hospital, Colombo. Karunasekara was attached to the Joint Operations Headquarters and held the rank of Brigadier when the abduction of Noyahr took place.Police sources said that the Magistrate had visited the Military Hospital and remanded the suspect.


Karunasekara went on to become the Directorate of Military Intelligence (DMI).
