President Maithripala Sirisena has summoned the presidential task force appointed to combat dengue to convene immediately to discuss means and ways to combat and control the rapidly spreading mosquito-borne disease.
Anti-dengue presidential task force meeting will be held at the Presidential Secretariat under the patronage of the President today.
According to the Epidemiology Unit of Health Ministry 44,623 cases of dengue have been reported to the unit while 115 people have died of the disease so far this year. This is an alarming increase of dengue patients compared to the statistics on previous years.
Twelve districts have been identified as high risk zones according to the data on number of patients and mosquito larvae density.
