The government has decided to call for more proposals under the small scale solar power plants programme with a view to increasing competition among electricity suppliers,
This follows a memorandum submitted by Power and Renewable Energy Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya to the Cabinet on Tuesday.
Siyambalapitiya said the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), had confirmed that 90 small scale solar power projects could be established under stage two of the “Suryabala Sangramaya Programme.”
The CEB was of the view that such a move would result in healthy competition among electricity suppliers, he added.
Siyambalapitiya said the Cabinet had approved his proposal and bids would be called accordingly with relevant amendments to criteria followed in stage one.
