PM promises compensation

The Law and Order Ministry yesterday said that security measures currently in place at Gintota in the Galle District would be continued though the situation was back to normal.

 

IGP Pujith Jayasundera yesterday told The Island that among the 19 persons remanded till Nov 30 in connection with a series of clashes between Sinhalese and Muslims was a former Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman.

 

The police chief said that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Law and Order and Southern Development Minister Sagala Ratnayake had visited the Gintota area on Sunday.According to police 66 houses, 23 shops and ten vehicles belonging to members of both communities have been damaged.
