PM assures UNP reforms immediately after no-confidence vote

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has informed the UNP Parliamentary Group that party reforms will be carried out immediately after the conclusion of the no-confidence motion against him and the government which is to be taken up for debate tomorrow (4).

During the meeting of the UNP Parliamentary Group held today (3), the PM said that the responsibilities of the party will be transferred to a new group based on the discussions to carry out the necessary transition.

He stated that the United National Party (UNP) will be completely reformed and made into a party which can strongly face the upcoming Provincial Council election and other elections, the party said in a statement.

He also stated that they intend to extensively discuss the recommendations made by the committee headed by Ruwan Wijewardena appointed following the local government election and other recommendations received so far before taking future action.

Wickremesinghe also stated that the opinions of the party’s senior leaders will be sought before the new board of officials is appointed by the Working Committee before April 30.
