Only 51% GCE O/L candidates pass English

Only 51.12 per cent of candidates who sat the GCE O/L examination last year have passed English. This is the highest failure rate as regards the core subjects in 2017.


The result evaluation report of the Examinations Department reveals that out 296,157 students who sat the English paper only 151,393 obtained pass marks. Of them, 31,619 got ‘A’ passes, 19,822 ‘B’ passes, 39,717 ‘C’ passes and 60,235 ‘S’ passes.


Last year, only 47.90% of the GCE O/L candidates passed the English language.
