The no-confidence motion against PM Ranil Wickreme-singhe was a blessing in disguise since it had resulted in an opportunity to identity the stumbling blocks, strengthen the government and fast track development in the next two and a half years, Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne said yesterday in Colombo.
Describing the Motion as a ” storm in a tea cup” , Senaratne told the weekly Cabinet Press Briefing at the Parliamentary Complex that it would be easily defeated since the allegations against the Prime Minister presented to the legislature , had not been established. ” What is reported by some media, is not what is stated in the Report of the Commission that investigated Treasury Bond issues in 2015 and 2016.”
He said that the Podujana Peramuna led by Mahinda Rajapaksa was talking about an estimated Rs. 11 billion loss to the EPF and ETF in 2015 and 2016, having conveniently forgotten about a Rs.400 billion loss that the EPF and ETF had suffered due to the purchase of Treasury Bonds from 2008 to 2014 , under the Rajapaksa regime.
