The 64 members elected to the local government bodies in Ampara district at the recent polls from the UNP took their oaths before minister Daya Gamage at the auditorium of Monty Guest in Ampara yesterday.
Speaking on the occasion, minister Gamage urged the new LG members to give their strength to the country’s development.
The minister also asked them to serve the country and the people without using their position as an ornament.
A big development programme has been launched to provide a maximum service to the public, he added.
Deputy minister Dr. Anoma Gamage stressed that the 64 UNP members were shouldering a big responsibility.
Dr. Gamage advised them to conduct themselves in a manner that safeguards the dignity of the party and its regional leadership.
