Due to the active cloudiness in the Western and North-western sea areas, temporarily strong gusty winds (up to 70-80 kmph) and very rough seas can be expected in the sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Kankasanturai via Puttalam and Mannar.
In addition other sea areas may also be very rough during thunder showers, the department said issuing a severe weather warning, a short while ago, while requesting naval and fishing communities to be vigilant in this regard, The Met Department said.
Meanwhile the meteorology department said that due to the low level atmospheric disturbance over Sri Lanka, prevailing showery condition is expected to continue further. Cloudy skies are also expected over most parts of the island.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times over most parts of the island and the possibility for very heavy showers is high in the hilly areas.
