Millions of Lankans without any identity

In a survey conducted by the Department of Registration of Persons it was revealed that one million Sri Lankan citizens didn’t possess a national identity card or any authentic identification document.

Director General of the Department Viyani Gunatillake said among them the majority were senior citizens.

There were around 80,000 persons without a national identity card in the Kurunegala District only.

He said the situation in other districts was no different and the department planned to rectify the issue by holding mobile services.
