Lester’s Golden Peacock found abandoned inside bus

The stolen Golden Peacock was found abandoned aboard a private bus in Colombo yesterday even as police intensified a search for the prestigious Indian film award nicked from the funeral of cinematographer Lester James Peries.

 

The bus crew handed over the abandoned award to the Kollupitiya police station, police headquarters said in a statement. It said investigations were continuing.

 

The award was displayed by his coffin and placed next to a portrait of the 99-year-old celebrity director who is regarded as the father of Sri Lankan cinema.
