Higher Education and Highways Minister Lakshman Kiriella yesterday said the construction work on the Colombo-Kandy Expressway would be completed by the end of 2019.
Addressing a meeting held at his Ministry in Battaramulla on Monday (10), Minister Kiriella said the construction work had been expedited.
The discussions on Ruwanpura Expressway which would run from Colombo to Ratnapura was ongoing while plans were afoot to start the construction work on Kurunegala to Dambulla Expressway, Minister Kiriella said.
Once the construction of Colombo-Kandy expressway was completed and the road opened to the public, the people would be able to travel from Colombo to Kandy within an hour, he said. Currently, it took around three to four hours to travel between Kandy and Colombo, he said.
