Jayasuriya to consult President, PM on vacant post of Deputy Speaker

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, yesterday, told Parliament that he would inform the House of the situation regarding the post of Deputy Speaker after consulting the President and the Prime Minister.

 

He made this announcement, when UNP MP Nalin Bandara Jayamaha demanded to know the government’s position on the vacant Deputy Speaker’s post following Thilanga Sumapthipala’s resignation.

 

Speaker Jayasuriya: The President has not informed me of the Deputy Speaker’s resignation.

 

MP S. B. Dissanayake: There are occasions when the Opposition MPs become the Speaker of the House.
