India presents proposal to implement operations of MRIA under a PPP structure

Sri Lankan government has called for proposals from investors to continue operations of Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA) under a public-private partnership (PPP) structure.

However, no proposal has been received from investors to related enterprises that covers operations, management and maintenance of the airport.

The government says the MRIA has incurred a loss of USD 112.9 million (Rs. 15.6 billion) at 31st December 2016.

Meanwhile the Government of India has presented a proposal that considers all the aspects of the MRIA.

Hence the Minister of Transport & Civil Aviation, Nimal Siripala De Silva has proposed to appoint a committee comprising several senior Secretaries to Ministries to further study the proposal and the Cabinet at its meeting held last Wednesday has approved the Minister’s proposal.
