The current hot and humid weather would continue till mid May, the Met Department said yesterday, adding that intermittent showers would also occur.
Duty Meteorologist S. Premathilake said: “The current weather will continue till May 15. There will be scattered showers but not continuously. The main reason is for this is lack of winds. The mornings will be cold but by 9.00 am there will scorching heat,”
The Met Department predicts average temperature of 31 Celsius in Colombo, 35.1 Celsius in Anuradhapura and 35 Celsius in Polonnaruwa in April.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Western, North-Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and Uva provinces and in Anuradhapura, Mannar, Ampara and Batticaloa Districts after 2.00 pm today, the Met Department says.
Misty conditions could be expected at some places in the Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces in the morning. There might also be temporary localised strong winds during thundershowers.
