The Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), the low pressure area at where the winds coming from Northern hemisphere and Southern hemisphere meet, lies over Sri Lanka and there is a high possibility for afternoon thundershowers, says the Met Department.
Showers or thundershowers will occur over most parts of the island after 2.00 p.m. while showers may occur in the Western province and in Puttalam district and along the southern and eastern coastal areas in the morning too.
Heavy falls (about 100 mm) can be expected at some places particularly in the Central, North-Central, Eastern and Uva provinces and in the Vauniya district, the meteorology department said.
Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces during the morning.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Puttalam via Batticaloa and to Galle.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in other sea areas around the island in the evening or night.
Winds will be Westerly to South-westerly in direction from Mannar to Hambantota via Galle and variable in direction over the other sea areas. Wind speed will be 10-20 kmph.
