The Colombo High Court, yesterday, permitted Rohitha Abeygunawardene, UPFA MP for the Kalutara District to go abroad from September 24 to October 10. The accused Abeygunawardene will travel to Japan and Thailand.
The Director CID and the commissioner General of Emigration, and Immigration are to be informed of the order.
The inquiry into alleged corruption against Abeygunewardene will be held in the High Court on October 12.
The accused is to be present in Court on that day. He should return his passport to court custody prior to that.
Abeygunewardene, the former Minister of Ports and Shipping, was unable to explain how he acquired assets amounting to Rs. 41.5 million, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption has complained to the courts.
