The ongoing heatwave would continue for a few more days, the Department of Meteorology said yesterday.
Meteorologist Nimal Bandara said the department had issued a Heat Weather Advisory for the Northern, Eastern, North-Central and Uva provinces.
The Department warms that fatigue is possible with prolonged exposure and activity, while continuing physical activity could result in heat cramps.
The highest temperature in recent times was reported from Polonnaruwa, on Saturday. It was 36.30 Celsius, Meteorologist Bandara said, adding that the present situation would turn better with the activation of South West Monsoon winds.
He predicted showers or thundershowers, at several areas, in the country, this afternoon including the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, North Central, Southern and Eastern provinces.
