The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) had so far not submitted its observations on the post intern appointment list, the Health Ministry said yesterday.
Health Secretary Janaka Sugathadasa said the GMOA was expected to submit its observations to the Ministry by Wednesday (04). At a meeting on Monday the GMOA had been given days to submit its observations to the Ministry, the Ministry Secretary said.
Sugathadasa said a list of 1,200 post intern appointments received the approval of the Public Service Commission (PSC) and been published on the Health Ministry website. It had been temporarily suspended until the GMOA submitted its observations. The appointments would take effect from today (06), the ministry said.
Deputy Director General Medical Services -II, Dr Amal Harsha de Silva, contacted for comment, said the Health Secretary had appointed a three-member committee on Monday (02) following discussions with the GMOA to look into the doctors’ concerns regarding the issue.
