GMOA complains of move to amend Medical Ordinance

Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne was under pressure from some NGOs to amend the Medical Ordinance and restructure the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) to suit their sinister agendas, the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) charged yesterday.

GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge told the media that a senior journalist involved with several civil society movements had recently written to Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne calling for amending the Medical Ordinance to remove GMOA members and state medical faculty lecturers from the SLMC.

The four GMOA members, elected to the Medical Council last January had already expressed their strong objection to the MBBS (SAITM) degree, which the SLMC had endorsed contrary to its previous position, said Dr Aluthge.
