Four passengers have been apprehended by Airport Customs at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) for attempting to smuggle pieces of gold in their rectums.
The gold was found to weigh 387.81g and estimated to be valued at Rs. 2,132,955.
The passengers, one Indian national and three Sri Lankan nationals, were aged between 20 and 38, Customs reported.
Two had been bound to India, whereas one had been bound to Trich and the other to Madurai, when they were apprehended by Customs staff at the Departure terminal.
