Draft Interim Report on constitutional reforms to be debated next week

The draft Interim Report of the Steering Committee will be debated in the Constitutional Assembly on the 30th and 31st of October and 1st of November 2017.

The draft Interim Report of the Steering Committee was tabled in the Constitutional Assembly on the 21st of September 2017 by the Prime Minister as Chairman of the Steering Committee.

All observations by Members and Political parties as included in the Interim Report have been made based on the ‘Updated Draft Interim Report’ that was tabled in the Steering Committee on 8th August 2017. Further to the decision of the Steering Committee the final date for submission of observations/ comments was 31st August 2017.

As decided by the Steering Committee on 6th September 2017, translations of all the political party observations into Sinhala, Tamil and English as necessary, have been done by the Parliamentary Interpreter’s Office and approved by the respective Member/ Members of the Steering Committee who submitted the same.

The proceedings of the Constitutional Assembly are open to the public and the debates in the Constitutional Assembly on the 30th and 31st of October and 1st of November 2017 can be viewed by the public.
