Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has said that during the forthcoming three years a development era would be created in the country and the plan for the development will be launched on Monday under the patronage of the President.
The Premier, participating in a program to empower women held today at the divisional secretariat Office in Malabe said that it was the incumbent Government that injected economic and political strength to women.
The Prime Minister said that their intention is to build a strong economy. For this purpose small entrepreneurs should be strengthened.
He said the women occupy a prominent place in the Government economic program and at the same time initiatives have been taken to enhance the political strength of women. They have launched a new system that 25 percent of Parliamentarians should be women. At present it is being tried to identify shortcomings.
The function was organized by the Sujeewa Senasinghe Women’s Foundation for awarding of certificates to women who had successfully completed a garment course Sewing machines were also provided on the occasion. A sum of nearly 100,000 rupees was set aside for each woman. Training on sewing was imparted to 3000 under one stage.
