Primary industries minister Daya Gamage and chairperson of the UNP-affiliate Eksath Lak Wanitha Peramuna, deputy minister Dr. Anoma Gamage recently visited ‘Art Lanka’ Batik society office at Nawagampura in Ampara.
The Primary Industries Ministry maintains this office to promote Batik industry in the district.
The minister and the deputy minister spoke to its female staff and obtained their views on developing the industry.
The Eksath Lak Wanitha Peramuna is taking steps to secure self-employment for 1,000 women in the Batik industry.
Staff of ‘Art Lanka’ obtained training at the National Craft Council and is presently training for young girls in the district.
Recently, deputy minister Gamage sponsored a Batik training for four selected women in Indonesia.
