Court of Appeal petitioned to restrain recently elected members of Kotte MC

A petitioner, named R. A. Don Janaka, of Pagoda Road, Pitakotte, has requested the Court of Appeal to issue an interim order restraining the participation of the recently elected members from participating in the inauguration of the Municipal Council of Kotte, and the Election of the Mayor Scheduled for March 26, 2018.

 

The petitioner has requested the court to quash the gazette notification concerned.

 

The petition says the Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna polled 22,068 votes at the Local Authorities Poll at Kotte and secured 18 seats. The Opposition parties, the UNP, UPFA, JVP jointly secured more votes, than the SLFP, but got fewer than 18 seats.

 

The petitioner who was a UPFA candidate wants the elected members restrained from participating in the inauguration of the Kotte Municipal Council and the election of the Mayor, on March 26, 2018.

 

The petitioner wants the gazetted quashed by the Court.
