The Galgamuwa Magistrate’s Court has held that the police have powers to file plaints, under the Excise Ordinance.
This was following a preliminary objection raised in a case filed by Galgamuwa Police for the possession of Goda which is used for the brewing of illicit liquor.
Defence attorneys filing preliminary objections had argued that the police do not have powers to carry out raids, make arrests and filed cases for illicit liquor.
DIG (Legal) Ajith Rohana, SP Ruwan Gunasekara and attorney-at-law ASP Darshana Gallage appeared before the court to present facts, the Police Spokesman’s Office said.
