Colombo to get 200 free WiFi spots

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said yesterday that 200 free WiFi spots would be established in central locations in Colombo.

Addressing a ceremony at the Galle Face Green in Colombo to launch free Internet access in collaboration with Sri Lanka Telecom, the Prime Minister said it was part of the government’s programme to establish a strong digital economy.

The PM said that under the first stage of this project, 200 central locations in Colombo would be provided with free WiFi, which would be gradually expanded to many other parts of the country.

The digital revolution had spread worldwide and become the key to development, Wickremesinghe noted, adding that unless Sri Lanka kept pace, it would be left behind.
