Bus operators demand ten to 15 percent fare hike

Ceylon Private Bus Association General Secretary Anjana Priyanjith yesterday threatened an indefinite strike if the government did not agree to a 15% fare hike.

Priyanjith said the prices of not only fuel but also parts had increased and they were forced to demand a fare hike.

However, Lanka Private Bus Owners Association Chairman Gemunu Wijeratne said only a 10% fare hike would be sufficient.

Every time the fuel price was increased, there were considerable bus fare hikes, but when the price of diesel was drastically reduced there was no reduction in the bus fares.
