Basic proposals agreeable to all stakeholders included in the interim report on new constitution – PM

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says several basic proposals that could be agreed upon by all parties are included in the interim report of the Steering Committee on the new constitution.

The Premier made this observation when he participated in the debate on the constitutional compilation council which integrates the whole parliament in to the process.

Prime Minister Wickremesinghe told the parliament that there was a set of proposals forwarded by the Joint Opposition in the new constitution. He further noted that they agree on the statement made by the Chief Prelates requesting the government not to devise a constitution which is detrimental to the unitary state, Buddha Sasana and the country.

He said that he also agree with the proposals and the government is ready to discuss them with everyone and pointed out to the opposition that there was no point in shouting at these sessions.

The Premier insisted that the government cannot do anything without the agreement of all parties. Everyone is agreeable to proposals to build Sri Lanka bringing peace and prosperity to all communities including Sinhalese. Tamil and Muslims while protecting the unitary state.

The Premier called upon everyone to be united to introduce the new constitution.
