Accelerated programme needed to escape from debt trap

Primary industries minister Daya Gamage stresses the need for an accelerated programme to save the country from the debt trap.

He was speaking at a seminar at Suhurupaya auditorium at Battaramulla today (21) to empower plant nursery owners.

The minister said time has come to take the country forward through modern technology like developed countries.

According to him, the government has been able to generate half of the promised one million jobs within the past two years.

He also said that the country needed around 200 million crop plants.

Mr. Gamage said that plant nurseries of high standard would be created within the next six months.

Asking plant nursery owners to present their problems to him, the minister said the required relief would be granted to them.

Ministry secretary Bandula Wickremarachchi, Export Agriculture Department’s director general A.P. Heenkenda were among those present.
