Allowed for tea, rubber

The ban on the use of glyphosate has been partly lifted, with permission granted from today for its use in tea and rubber cultivation. Minister Navin Dissanayake made the announcement at a media briefing. The importation, distribution, sale and use of glyphosate were banned from 2015.

Former military intelligence chief further remanded

Former Director of Military Intelligence and Chief of Staff of the Army, Major General (Retired) Amal Karunasekara, has been further remanded until May 16. He was arrested on April 06 this year,  in connection with the abduction and assault of journalist Keith Noyahr in 2008 May 22 at Dehiwala.
